The name of Ballsbridge is derived from the bridge over the River Dodder. The bridge was built and owned by a ball from Lord - there is a plaque on the bridge, the ball is still called "bridge".

The houses in the area are mainly Victorian, with some Georgian mansions here and there. Detached houses in main residence, and terraced houses, apartments and bungalows. In reality, Shrewsbury and Ailesbury Road, Dublin 4 in the region are considered the most expensive streets in Ireland! The area also houses the headquarters of Allied Irish Banks (AIB).

Lansdowne Road
Lansdowne Road Stadium is the official seat of the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU), whose offices are located under the stadium. By the end of 2006, all from home in Ireland's Six Nations matches and tests were carried out of there. E 'was also for the Irish international soccer, football League Cup final concert used Italy and many in the past. In fact, it was the oldest place of international rugby --Ireland has played in England in a friendly match in 1878. The first international soccer match was played at the headquarters in 1900, but by 1926-1968 it was the football played only rarely. The stadium has a capacity of about 48,000 earlier. Rock legends U2, REM, The Eagles and Bon Jovi are among the artists who performed at the old stadium.
The stadium is to have an important development and modernization until April 2010 to create a magnificent 50,000 all-seat stadium for rugby and football. TheRedevelopment of the stadium was finally announced in January 2004 at a price of around € 365 million and this is reported € 190 million from the Irish government to the rest of the IRFU and the Football Association of Ireland (FAI).
Royal Dublin Society (RDS)
The Royal Dublin Society was founded almost 300 years ago to promote and encourage the development of science, agriculture and industry in Ireland. The existing buildings were acquired in1879 and now covers an area of forty acres. The site offers a number of warehouses (RDS main hall), the RDS Arena, meeting and conference rooms, bars and restaurants, and the RDS Simmonscourt Pavilion. RDS Main Hall is a major center for exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events. The young scientist and technology on show in January of each there is, along with the travel fair.

Herbert Park is a beautiful green area in Ballsbridge. It covers an area of about 32 hectares and is situated close to the luxurious Herbert Park Hotel. The park is located near the River Dodder, and includes a number of soccer fields, flower gardens and a large bath duck. Also on site is a playground for children, a number of tennis courts, bowling alley and that of Herbert Park Bowling Club
