The name of Ballsbridge is derived from the bridge over the River Dodder. The bridge was built and owned by a ball from Lord - there is a plaque on the bridge, the ball is still called "bridge".
The bridge itself, the Center of the Ballsbridge suburb, the north toward the Grand Canal along Northumberland Road and Shelbourne Road, south along Merrion Road towards Merrion and along Anglesea then extends towards Donnybrook Road, and west to surround the area HerbertPark
The houses in the area are primarily on the Victorian era, with some Georgian mansions here and there. Detached houses in the main, and terraced houses, flats and bungalows. In fact, Ailesbury and Shrewsbury Road, Dublin 4 in the region are considered the most expensive streets in Ireland! The area is also home to the headquarters of Allied Irish Banks (AIB).

Lansdowne Road
Lansdowne Road Stadium is the official home of the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU), whose offices are located on the stadium grounds. By the end of 2006, all from home in Ireland Six Nations and test matches were played there. It was also for the Irish soccer internationals, football used League of Ireland Cup final and several concerts in the past. In fact, it was the oldest international rugby site --Ireland played England in a friendly match in 1878. The first international football match was played at the venue in 1900, but by 1926-1968 it was football played only rarely. The stadium had a previous capacity of about 48,000. Rock legends U2, REM, The Eagles and Bon Jovi are among the artists who performed at the old stadium.
The stadium is to have an important development and modernization until April 2010 to create a magnificent 50,000 all-seater stadium for rugby and soccer. TheRedevelopment of the stadium was finally announced in January 2004 at a price of around € 365 million and this is reported € 190 million, came from the Irish government, pays the rest of the IRFU and the Football Association of Ireland (FAI).
Royal Dublin Society (RDS)
The Royal Dublin Society was founded almost 300 years ago to promote and encourage the development of science, agriculture and industry in Ireland. The current premises were acquired in1879 and now covers an area of forty acres. The venue offers a number of warehouses (the RDS main hall), the RDS Arena, meeting and conference rooms, bars and restaurants, and the RDS Simmonscourt Pavilion. The RDS Main Hall is a popular center for exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events. The Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition in January each is there, along with the travel trade show.
The RDS in the past, many concerts organized. Popular Artistssuch as Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles, Radiohead, Guns n 'Roses and Metallica have all performed here. In fact, in February 2008 Meteor Music Awards, which were stored there. The RDS is also developed as an Equine Center. In August of each year, the home of the RDS Dublin Horse Show is, with local and international equestrian stars, this is riding a major international event.
The RDS is also the home of the Leinster rugby team and the team play their league and Heineken Cup MagnierGames there.
Herbert Park
Herbert Park is a beautiful green area in Ballsbridge. It covers an area of approximately 32 hectares and is located near the luxurious Herbert Park Hotel. The park is near the River Dodder, and includes a number of football fields, blooming gardens and a large duck pond. Also on the site are a children's playground, a number of tennis courts, bowling green and that of the Herbert Park Bowling Club.

The DART trainthrough Ballsbridge, stopping at Lansdowne Road and also close to Sandymount and provides access to the city center of Dublin. Ballsbridge is also serviced by the following Dublin Bus routes, 4, 5, 7, 7A, 7E, 8, 18, 45, 63 and 84 buses.
